Saylor Scott, born on May 29th, 2002, hails from the picturesque Gulf Shores Beach in the countryside of Daphne, Alabama. Venturing into her artistic odyssey, she enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, initially pursuing Illustration before honing her craft in Fine Arts in Savannah. Anticipated to earn her B.F.A in Painting by Winter 2025, Saylor's journey has been shaped by intensive instruction in fibers, sculpture and printmaking, enriching her repertoire. Her multidimensional approach, anchored in an emotive exploration of human experiences, underscores her status as a rapidly growing artist.
In the current time Saylor is working on her more grotesque work of recreating organs like forms concurrent with a visual or textual message. Each piece represents a different form of anxiety and fear. For her future collections she hopes to focus on the path of self-healing and coping. Continuing her journey of delving into the inner parts of herself, exposing the thoughts and feelings she long hid.
Artist statement
The emotions caught in your throat, the pit in your stomach, the queasiness of your guts — the bodily reactions to emotions. The confusing and disorienting mix of emotional and psychical that we all experience as human beings but refuse to acknowledge. My art works to capture these things that even I don’t quite understand myself. Art that helps work through the purposeful disconnect of the body and the mind and creating works to express the things not processed. Art embodies the distorted human essence within our emotions.
Utilizing my trained skills with painting and sculptures to construct pieces that have an element of some type of bodily organ. Each element is used in conjunction to an image or a message that mimics and recreates these ties between the mind and body. My creations are chaotic with imperfections in each piece, they show the childish clumsiness that comes with processing the unsettled things within us. Manipulating fabric to mimic skin by wrinkling, dying and then loosely stretching, Sewing fabric to recreate organs, and sculpting the other bits with miscellaneous material. My experimentation with materials helps further reflect curiosity and dissection of the mind and body, feeling like an alien within one's own body and soul, and the struggle to understand the human experience even though you've been in it your whole life. An erratic expression of living.
